We are pleased to announce that Social Medicine (www.socialmedicine.info and
www.medicinasocial.info) has just published a new issue. The table of
contents is attached to this message.

We are particularly pleased to be publishing several items concerning the
1970 community take-over of Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx. These include a
chapter from the recently reissued book "White Coat, Clenched Fist" by
Fitzhugh Mullan, an introduction to the chapter by historian Merlin
Chowkwanyun and audio of a 1971 program about Lincoln Hospital by Bruce
Soloway originally broadcast on WBAI radio in New York. The WBAI radio
program includes the voices of many physician activists including Helen
Rodriguez-Trias and Lewis Fraad.

One of the particularly interesting aspects of this take-over was that it
raised the question of community and worker control of a hospital. As we
move towards an evermore corporate model of health care it is important to
remember that there are alternative conceptions of how health care should be
structured. Another world is possible.
