[news] Wolfowitz promotes new World Bank policies on reproductive health

Concerns regarding Paul Wolfowitz's leadership at the World Bank have
received much media attention. But what is even more shocking is the
controversy surrounding the Bank's policies on sexual and reproductive
health. World Bank Managing Director, Juan Jose Daboub, recently ordered
the removal of all mentions of "family planning" and "contraception" from
the Bank's Health, Nutrition and Population Strategy. Daboub, a recent
appointee of Wolfowitz, comes from El Salvador where he was linked to
ultraconservative groups.

Wolfowitz claims these decisions do not indicate a change in long- standing
Bank policy supporting family planning as a key tool for development, but
they do indicate gross mismanagement and have spurred an overwhelming lack
of confidence in Wolfowitz's ability to lead the Bank.

Help us hold the World Bank accountable! HYPERLINK
