PHA-Exchange> New WHO DG places focus on PHC

Interesting and encouraging words from the new WHO DG, Dr Margaret Chan,
in her address to the WHO Executive Board:
 
".The World Health Report for next year will be the second part. It will
be issued in a significant
year: the 60th anniversary of WHO and the 30th anniversary of Alma-Ata.
I have decided to focus the
World Health Report 2008 on primary health care and its role in
strengthening health systems. The
report will address a second, more personal dimension of health
security: community access to the
fundamental prerequisites for health, including enough food, safe water,
adequate housing and
sanitation, and essential health care. Meeting these prerequisites is a
critical public health function that
should be performed in every country as a matter of good governance."
