  PPEHRC will lead March for the Human Right to Water to the headquarters of Coca Cola during the US Social Forum

  At the U.S. Social Forum in Summer 2007, the POOR PEOPLE'S ECONOMIC HUMAN RIGHTS CAMPAIGN (PPEHRC) will lead a massive non-violent "MARCH FOR THE HUMAN RIGHT TO WATER" to the world headquarters of Coca Cola in Atlanta, Georgia. We will erect a "BUSHVILLE" Tent City to be the base for our involvement with the Social Forum, the March, and also the location of daily teach-ins, panels, workshops, and performances.  The ‘Bushville’ will feature a large medical tent as a statement addressing the health care crisis in the US and the healthcare ramifications of living without access to clean water.  Throughout the week, we will be taking members of the national and international media, the human rights community, religious people and others on Water Crisis Reality Tours of Atlanta and surrounding areas, exposing the plight of Americans living without water. 

  Far from a privilege or a commodity, water is the essential element of all life on our planet. For societies across the globe, it is integral to transportation, agriculture, industry and culture. It is the obligation of local, national and international public institutions to protect and deliver safe water to all by ensuring that provision of water is public, social, cooperative, equitable and not for profit. However, President Bush is cutting federal aid to public water systems while privatizing the nation’s water supplies and services. Alongside multinational corporations, he is making survival ever more difficult to afford. Escalating rates threaten to deny drinking water and turn off the faucets in homes of increasing numbers of poor people around the country. While stockholders reap the benefits, the poor are essentially being denied our basic human right of access to water. The United Nations guarantees clean, safe water as a basic human right
 yet the United States
 ignores this. The Bush Administration continues to attack other nations under the pretense of human rights violations while horribly violating the rights of its own people. As poor and working people of this country, we demand access to clean and safe water. Next Summer we will bring together thousands of poor people, along with community organizations from across the country, students, social workers, union members, lawyers, religious leaders and everyone who believes it is wrong to put a price on life. We will invite the international community and movements around the world who are fighting for the human right to water to join us. We will make our voices heard as we March for the Human Right to Water. 

  All across the country people are fighting to protect the public control of water services in their communities. Organizers from Stockton, CA and Champaign, IL to Detroit, MI, Philadelphia, PA and elsewhere have all organized to fight major multinational corporations that seek to privatize water, regardless of high ecological, societal and human costs. Many of these campaigns have already tasted success. Others remain in the trenches, but are gaining ground. The U.S. Social Forum is a unique opportunity for us all to make a dramatic, defining statement against water privatization and to assert water as a human right. Water is an essential resource that cannot be confined by city, state, political or economic barriers. Neither should be our fight to protect it.  

  The privatization of water prioritizes profit above the provision of services to those most in need. Thus, in the United States and across the globe, the right to water is most often denied to the poor. People who fight poverty, homelessness and lack healthcare, must also struggle without access to clean water for drinking, cleaning, cooking, washing, bathing and other daily functions. The Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign recognizes that economic rights and the right to water are inextricably linked, and will unite with existing grassroots efforts in the UNited States and around the world in demanding that sufficient access to clean and safe water be protected for all. 

  Water should never be a luxury. Not in the United States. Not anywhere. Toward this end, the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign calls for you to join us as we flood the streets of Atlanta in a powerful demonstration for the human right to water.

    PPEHRC liderara March por el Derecho Humano al Agua a la sede de Coca Cola durante Foro Social EEUU

  En el Foro Social Estadounidense en el verano de 2007, la CAMPANA DE LOS POBRES POR LOS DERECHOS HUMANOS ECONOMICOS (PPEHRC) liderará una masiva y pacifica “MARCHA POR DERECHO HUMANO AL AGUA” a la sede internacional de Coca Cola en Atlanta, Georgia.  Construiremos una Ciudad de Carpas, “BUSHVILLE”, como la base de nuestro involucramiento con el Foro Social, la Marcha, y también el sede cada día de charlas, debates, talleres, y presentaciones culturales  El “Bushville” tendrá una gran carpa médica como una declaración sobre la crisis de la salud en los Estados Unidos y las consecuencias por la salud de vivir sin acceso al agua limpio. Por toda la semana, llevaremos a miembros de los medios nacionales y internacionales de comunicación, los defensores y las defensoras de derechos humanos, los religiosos, y otros por un Tur de la Realidad de la Crisis del Agua en Atlanta y las afueras, exponiendo la realidad que viven los norteamericanos que no tienen acceso al agua.

  Lejos de ser un privilegio ni una mercancia, el agua es el elemento esencial de toda la vida del planeta.  Para las sociedades en todas partes del mundo, es integral al transporte, la agricultura, la industria, y la cultura. La Administración Bush sigue atacando otras naciones bajo la fachada de la violaciones de derechos humanos mientras viola terriblemente los derechos de su propia gente.  Como los pobres y trabajadores de este país, exigimos el acceso al agua limpia y segura.  Este verano, convocaremos miles de pobres, junto con las organizaciones comunitarias de todo el país, estudiantes, trabajadores sociales, sindicalistas, abogados, religiosos, y todos los quienes creemos que es injusto poner un precio a la vida.  Invitamos a la Comunidad Internacional y a los movimientos por el Derecho Humano al Agua de todas partes del mundo a unirse con nosotros. Alzaremos nuestras voces mientras marchamos por el Derecho Humano al Agua.

  En este país, los norteamericanos luchan para proteger el control público de los servicios del agua en sus comunidades.  Los promotores de Stockton, California; Champaign, Illinois; Detroit, Michigan; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania y otros lugares se han organizado para luchar en contra de las corporaciones transnacionales que buscan privatizar el agua, sin tener en cuenta los altos costos ecológicos, sociales, y humanos.  Muchas de estas campañas ya han probado el éxito.  Otros siguen luchando, ganando poco a poco.  El Foro Social Estadounidense es una oportunidad única para que hagamos una declaración dramática y definitiva en contra de la privatización del agua y para afirmar que el agua es un derecho humano.  El agua es un recurso esencial que no se puede contener por barreras de locales, estales, políticas, ni económicas.  Tampoco debe ser nuestra lucha para protegerlo.

  La privatización del agua prioriza la ganancia encima de la provisión de servicio a los más necesitados.  Por eso, en los Estado Unidos y en todo el mundo, el derecho al agua más se niega a los pobres.  Los que luchan contra la pobreza y la falta de vivienda y salud también tenemos que luchar sin acceso al agua limpio para beberse, limpiar, cocinar, bañarse, lavar y más.  La Campaña de los Pobres por los Derechos Humanos Económicos reconoce que los derechos económicos y el derecho al agua son ligados, y se unirá con los esfuerzos existentes de la base en los Estados Unidos y alrededor del mundo para exigir la protección del acceso al agua limpio y seguro para todos.

  El agua jamás debe ser un lujo.  Ni el los Estado Unidos.  Ni en ningún lugar.  Por eso, la Campaña de los Pobres por los Derechos Humanos Económicos te invita a unirte con nosotros a inundir las calles de Atlanta en una poderosa manifestación por el derecho humanos al agua.
