Dr. Mathura Shrestha's arrest extended with 3 months

On April 18, the Nepali authorities have extended the detention of
Nepali health activist Mathura P. Shrestha and five other political and
political, human rights and civil society leaders by another three
months. Dr. Shrestha is a prominent member of the People's Health
Movement.

Along with Shrestha's, the authorities have extended the detention of
Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel, another NC leader Narhari Acharya,
human rights leader Krishna Pahadi and civil society leaders Dr Devendra
Raj Pandey, and journalist Shyam Shrestha by another three months.

The authorities' move has come at a time when Kathmandu was rife with
rumours that opposition leaders would be released. They were arrested
last January 19.
