The coalition "Peru Frente al TLC" which says that the Peruvian Elections Judge (Jurado Nacional de Elecciones) on 7 April 2006 decided to allow the request for a referendum regarding the ratification of the United States - Peru Free Trade Agreement. This will now allow the Peruvian Parliament to decide whether to pass a law requiring a referendum. 

 

The US-Peru FTA signed on 7 December 2005 includes harmful trade rules, including strict intellectual property rules that will restrict access to affordable medicines and harm the enjoyment of the right to health in Peru.

 

It is necessary to support Peruvian NGOs in their campaign and encourage the Peruvian Parliament to pass the law requiring the referendum.

 Estimados y estimadas colegas,

 

La coalición Perú Frente al TLC (ver abajo), después de una iniciativa ciudadana en Perú, han logrado una resolución del Jurado Nacional de Elecciones el 7 de abril 2006 que otorga la petición de un referéndum sobre el tratado de libre comercio (TLC) entre Estados Unidos y Perú.  El Congreso de Perú puede ahora considerarlo como proyecto de ley.  

 

El TLC con Estados Unidos firmado el 7 de diciembre 2005, tiene reglas de propiedad intelectual que van a restringir el acceso a medicamentos y el disfrute del derecho a la salud en Perú. 

 

Seria necesario dar un apoyo a la sociedad civil de Perú para que el Congreso promulgue la ley de referéndum.
