*Meetings with Interior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government
of Pakistan*

Dear friends

A five-member delegation of Pakistan Social Forum and WSF Pakistan
Organizing Committee (Bushra Gohar, Gul Rehman, B.M. Kutty, Francisco and
Irfan Mufti) met with Mr. Aftab Sherpao, Interior Minister and Khurshid
Kasoori, Minister Foreign Affairs today in Islamabad. The delegation
apprised these ministers of the preparations of WSF Karachi and sought their
support in facilitating visa for foreign delegates. Both these ministers
expressed support for WSF and indicated all possible support to foreign
delegates in issuing timely visas. On request of the delegation Interior
minister agreed to make special arrangements for issuing visa clearance for
the foreign delegates especially fast tracking visa clearance for Indian,
Bangladeshi's and Nepali citizens. Mr. Sherpao said that the Interior
ministry will offer most of the delegates from other countries visa at the
entry points in Pakistan and in case of Indian citizens some special
arrangements to issue timely visas. He however urged the delegation to pass
on the passport details of all the Indian delegates to the ministry so that
the necessary clearance process can be initiated and completed on time.

Mr. Kasoori also indicated the support of foreign ministry in facilitating
visas from all the high commissions/embassies/missions where the delegates
will approach for visa. He also agreed to issue a circular to all those
Pakistan high commissions/embassies apprising them of the forum and
provision of support to the delegates. These ministers also agreed that the
two ministries will coordinate with each other to minimize the procedures
and for efficient response on visa applications. The minister also expressed
the support of Interior ministry to provide necessary security arrangements
for the delegates.

After the meetings the delegation conducted a press conference at
Rawalpindi/Islamabad press club and informed the press about the
preparations of the WSF so far and the offer of support from the government.

We feel confident that the government will not disappoint this time and will
fulfill these commitments.
