Dear Colleagues,

Please find the link below to a report published by 3D on how TRIPS-plus rules in Thailand's Free Trade Agreements threaten children's rights.

The report published in December 2005 entitled "International Trade, Health and Children's Rights - Thailand" outlines how strict intellectual property rules which risk being included in Thailand's FTAs with the US and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) could harm access to affordable medicines, an inherent part of the child's right to health and the child's right to life.

The report was submitted by 3D to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child who will be monitoring Thailand's implementation of its obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the 24 January 2006 in Geneva. The Committee can make recommendations to Thailand urging it to respect children's rights in trade negotiations.

The Thai government is engaged this week in a round of FTA negotiations with the US that includes intellectual property.
