WHO forum: making partnerships work for health

26-28 October 2005 -

            Website: http://www.who.int/mediacentre/events/2005/global_forum/about/en/index.html

"...The Forum is a dynamic and interactive engagement of action and commitment for its Member States, Secretariat and Interested Parties (NGOs, foundations, partnerships, academia, the private sector, and UN agencies and financing institutions) to tackle these issues. While sessions will concentrate on the above questions, discussions will also focus on action needed to improve health outcomes in countries.

To ensure concrete results of the Forum, three sub-themes have been chosen to provide a mechanism for constructive dialogue. These three themes are:

. Making every mother and child count

. Human resources for health

. Preventing chronic disease

One day will be designated around each theme, with the overarching principle of illustrating the power of partnerships for health - in other words, showing how they have contributed to positive changes in the health and lives of people. Due to popular demand, participation to these sessions will be by invitation.

Expected results of the Forum

The Forum represents a new opportunity for partners to demonstrate and witness the types of partnerships that work, to frankly discuss the tough issues, and to engage in dialogue towards taking partnerships further. Participants will come away from the Forum with:

. New knowledge through exchange of case studies, on what types of partnerships for health work and why

. A vision to tangibly demonstrate the synergies that create solutions and to show that partnerships is about people

. Engagement with new partners - an excellent opportunity to network

. Tangible tools - examples of visible outcomes as a result of effective partnerships - models of modalities and mechanisms that work

. Commitment to forge new and innovative ways of working together
