The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED) works for a world in which health research is recognized as essential to optimizing health and reducing inequity and poverty, prioritizing the poorest countries. We enable countries to put in place and use health research to foster health, health equity and development.  

 

A senior position exists for an independent, self-motivated and experienced Communication and Advocacy Officer, who will be responsible for the conceptualization, planning, execution, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy to promote the fulfillment of the organizations' vision and mission.

 

Main responsibilities include:  

·          In general, manage and develop the communication and advocacy function of COHRED.

·          Plan, coordinate and supervise the preparation of national and international communication and information strategies and projects.

·          Coordinate and provide regular news and information on the organization and on health research for development for both traditional and on-line publications via the organization's website, newsletters and other relevant communication and information media, and especially in media in the south.

·          Recruiting and supervising consultants on an ad hoc basis.

·          Collaborating with professional institutions, international, national, government and non-governmental organizations in general, and our partner organisations in particular.

·          Coordinate editing and production of all COHRED's publications.

·          Maintain the organizations website with relevant up-to-date information.

·          Support management in communicating to internal stakeholders and networkers.

·          Contribute to fundraising. 

 

The candidate we intend appointing will have: 

·          broad professional experience and an understanding of development issues in health;

·          an ability to work successfully within short deadlines and with multiple stakeholders;

·          capacity for high level dialogue with media, government and civil society representatives;

·          university degree in communication sciences or a similar discipline, and have a proven track record of successful communication and advocacy programming;

·          an affinity with health, advocacy and communication in developing countries, especially in the south;

·          an excellent command of French, Spanish and English; other languages will be an advantage; and

·          sound knowledge of international communication and advocacy issues.
