Internship Opportunities in Youth Reproductive Health and 
HIV/AIDS
 
The YouthNet program of Family Health International (FHI) an-
nounces an eleven-week internship program designed to give cur-
rent or recent undergraduate and graduate university students 
from developing countries experience in designing, implementing, 
and evaluating youth reproductive health (YRH) and HIV/AIDS pro-
grams. A maximum of six positions, based in the Washington, DC, 
area are available. The internship program will run from May 30 
to August 12, 2005.
 
YouthNet is a global program, managed by FHI, committed to im-
proving the reproductive health (RH) and HIV/AIDS prevention be-
haviors of youth 10 - 24 years old. It is designed to meet the 
unique, complex, and often wide-ranging RH and HIV prevention 
needs of young people as well as those of their parents and 
other adults who work with youth and influence their well-being. 
As such, YouthNet collaborates with youth, parents, religious 
and community leaders, policymakers, schools, health profession-
als, employers, the media, non-governmental organizations 
(NGOs), and other youth networks to improve the RH of young peo-
ple worldwide. Supported by the U.S. Agency for International 
Development (USAID), YouthNet works to strengthen programs, con-
duct research, strengthen policy, disseminate information, and 
improve services that address the RH and AIDS prevention needs 
and rights of youth.
 
How Will The Internship Work?
 
Each intern will develop a collaborative relationship with 
YouthNet staff working in one of the technical areas related to 
YRH and HIV/AIDS. The technical areas include: 
 
* Behaviour Change and Communication
* Monitoring and Evaluation
* Policy 
* Youth Participation
* Community Involvement
 
Interns will receive free housing (if needed) and an expense al-
lowance of US$ 300 per week. Travel to/from the Washington, DC 
area to participate in the internship will be covered (up to US$ 
400 per individual). 
 
Who Should Apply?
 
Dynamic individuals from developing countries currently enrolled 
in or recently graduated from U.S.-based universities who expect 
to return to their country of origin after their studies are 
complete. Individuals must have particular interests, experi-
ence, or skills in YRH and HIV/AIDS in developing country con-
texts and one or more of the technical areas listed above. Non-
Health, Development Studies majors, and HIV+ youth are encour-
aged to apply. Foreign language and computer skills are desir-
able. 
 
How Do I Apply?
 
Applicants should send:
1. A current resume (C.V.) 

2. A cover letter identifying their technical skills and inter-
ests, why they should be considered for the internship in a par-
ticular technical area, and highlighting how the internship 
matches his or her career goals

3. A letter of recommendation from the applicant's advisor, pro-
fessor, or supervisor in an applicable field
