Dear friends,

The People's Health Movement in Australia is seeking to build links with
primary health care organisations in Australia so that we can work with
their staff and through them with their communities; so that through PHM
these organisations can become more aware of the global issues which
shape our health and which are such barriers to health development in
developing countries.

It has been suggested, by one of the community health centres we have
approached, that they would like to have direct links with primary
health care organisations in developing countries, perhaps many
developing countries.

Community health centres in Australia vary widely, from generalist CHCs
to organisations with more specialist interest (women, ethnic
communities, refugee health, etc). They vary in terms of their
relationships to government and to their local communities. They vary
in terms of the employment status of their staff and the range of
disciplines in their staff.

However, many CHCs in Australia are very aware of Alma-Ata and are
committed to the principles of comprehensive primary health care. Many
people associated with CHCs are concerned about the health of people
beyond Australia and would be very keen to build more direct links.

Are there any grass roots PHC organisations out there who would like to
explore a brother / sister relationship with a CHC in Australia? If you
know of any such organisations can you please forward this email to
them?

If you are interested in exploring such a relationship please write to:
