The WB will not be issuing any more structural adjustment loans. (Aug 2004)
The new lending will be called "Development Policy Lending".
However, the name change does not signal an abrupt break with the past. It is more a 'conceptual update'.
The donor side still decides what the recipient side should want.
Lending linked to specific projects will still remain the WB's principal instrument.
Unrelated PS:
1.Road crashes kill 1.2 million people a year and injure or disable 50 million. Tey cost poor countries U$ 65 billion.
2. There are over 1 billin overweight and obese peple in the world. In China, the economic cost of diet-related chronic diseases has already surpassd that of undernutrition --a loss of more than 2% od GDP. et the MDGs do not specifically mention obesity.
