Dear Colleague:

I am pleased to let you know about Millions Saved: Proven Successes in Global Health, a new book from the Center for Global Development that documents the success of 17 large-scale efforts to improve health in developing countries, and highlights their lessons for today's global health challenges. From the eradication of polio in Latin America, to the elimination of measles in southern Africa, to HIV prevention in Thailand, this work provides clear evidence that large-scale success in health is possible.

The lessons in the book are powerful:

o          Far-reaching success can happen even in the poorest of countries;

o Donor assistance for global health has saved millions of lives; and

o Strong political leadership and predictable, adequate funding are among the key elements of success.

The full book and additional information - including interactive maps, a teachers' guide, and a short video - are available online at http://www.cgdev.org/publications/MillionsSaved/

The book can be ordered at http://bookstore.iie.com/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=386.

I hope you find Millions Saved useful in your work. If you have any questions about the project, please contact lead author Ruth Levine, at 202 416-0707 or rlevine at cgdev.org.

Sincerely,

Nancy Birdsall, President, Center for Global Development, Washington DC
