Christian Aid has launched its new report on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. This powerful new report argues that, without determined and rapid intervention by both the UK and Irish governments, the opportunity for a two-state solution will collapse.

Report on the Launch of Facts on the Ground at the House of Lords October 21

Christian Aid's new report on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Facts on the Ground, was launched yesterday at the House of Lords and was very well attended.

The launch was chaired by the Rt Revd Michael Langrish, Bishop of Exeter who presented the four speakers. Our director Daleep gave a powerful speech, followed by the Rt Hon Baroness Shirley Williams of Crosby who spoke inspiringly, and with great gravitas. Her depth of knowledge on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and her delivery were hugely disarming to any potential detractors.

Then we were privileged to hear from two of our partner organisations: Jessica Montell of B'Tselem, an Israel human rights organisation, and Nader Abu Amsha of the YMCA in Beit Sahour. We had invited a third partner - Ahmed Sourani from PARC in the Gaza Strip, but sadly due to the latest Israeli incursions in the north of Gaza, he was unable to travel.

The speeches were followed by a lively Question & Answer session and media work for the speakers such as interviews with the Jewish Chronicle and Christian Aid TV.

Yesterday's top news story on UK troops being redeployed to Babil (south of Baghdad) at a request from the US unfortunately overshadowed some of the proceedings as many MPs were in the Iraq debate which over-ran. However, there were many parliamentarians and decision-makers who all now have a copy of Facts on the Ground to read. Copies will also be sent to other MPs and Irish TDs in the next few days.
