"...This paper offers a new assessment of progress in reducing poverty over 1981-2001 using consistent data and methods - closely following the methods underlying the Attacking Poverty numbers.
We draw on 454 surveys covering 97 developing countries representing 93% of the population of the developing world. Taking the most recent survey for each country, about 1.1 million households were interviewed, with an average sample size of about 11,000. The surveys were mostly done by governmental statistics offices as part of their routine operations.."
Tool for Calculating Poverty Levels
Website: http://www.worldbank.org/research/povmonitor/software.htm
PovcalNet is an interactive computational tool developed by the Bank's Research Group to replicate calculations made by Bank researchers in estimating the extent of absolute poverty in the world. The tool also calculates poverty measures under different assumptions, and assembles the estimates using alternative country groupings. PovcalNet is self-contained, with built-in software that does real-time calculations from an annually updated database.
