The International Deaf Children's Society (IDCS)

The International Deaf Children's Society (IDCS)
is the international wing of the National Deaf
Children's Society (NDCS), a UK registered
charity founded in 1944. IDCS was launched in
2002 with the aim of improving the life chances
of deaf children everywhere.

The World Health Organisation estimates that
there are 123 million deaf people worldwide, two
thirds of these live in the developing world
where only ten per cent of deaf children receive
any education at all. In order to meet the needs
of some of these millions of unsupported deaf
children, the IDCS will build on work done by the
NDCS , one of the best resourced and most
experienced organisations working with parents of
deaf children.

Thread-Topic: Funding opportunity for work with
deaf children in developing countries

Round 2 of the International Deaf Children's
Society Small Grants Programme (SGP) was launched
on 1 May.

SGP offers grants of up to £10,000 for projects
that offer measurable and sustainable
improvements to the individual lives of deaf
children and their families. This could be either
by piloting new services or improving existing
services in the area of health and education or
by promoting the empowerment and participation of
deaf children and their families. Examples of
eligible projects might include anything from
sign language training for teachers to the
establishment of a parent network or a deaf youth
club.

If your organisation is registered in one of the
SGP eligible countries and you think that you
might have an idea for a project, then you might
want to apply to Round 2 of SGP.

Information about SGP eligibility criteria and
details about how to apply can be found on the
SGP section of our website, www.idcs.info/sgp
Application to SGP is by concept note and
guidelines and a format for the concept note are
available to download from the website at the
