The Betty Plewes Fund - Call for Nominations: The Betty Plewes Fund, 
launched in 2003 by CCIC's Africa Canada Forum to honour the 
contribution made by Betty Plewes while President-CEO of CCIC, provides 
a grant to an African non-governmentalorganization, engaged in research 
and policy development on issues of priority to women.

The fund is intended to recognise the work of an Africanorganization, 
and to provide flexible and reliable support for initiatives that might 
not otherwise receive funding from other sources. The $15,000 grant 
will be awarded to the recipientorganizationthrough a Canadian 
registered charity. The Fund recipient will be announced at the CCIC 
Annual General Meeting in May. The Selection Committee will receive 
nominations until March 12, 2004. For more information on the

The Canadian Council for International Co-operation is a coalition of 
Canadian voluntary sector organizations working globally to achieve 
sustainable human development. CCIC seeks to end global poverty, and to 
promote social justice and human dignity for all.

The Purpose of the Fund
The purpose of the Fund is to provide a grant to an African 
non-governmental organisation, engaged in research and policy 
development on issues of priority to women.

The fund is intended to recognise the work of an African organisation, 
and to provide flexible and reliable support for initiatives that might 
not otherwise receive funding from other sources.

The Amount and Modalities of Allocation
The $15,000 CDN grant will be awarded to the recipient organisation 
through a Canadian registered charity. Reporting and overall monitoring 
of the award, in accordance with the purpose and the modest amount of 
the annual instalment, should be kept at a minimum.

Nomination Process and Criteria
Canadian registered charities active in international development 
co-operation and involved in Sub-Saharan Africa are invited to nominate 
an African organisation that meets the profile hereafter described. 
Nominations from non CCIC member organisations must be accompanied by a 
letter of support from the Executive Director of a CCIC or Africa 
Canada Forum member organisation.

To be eligible, the African organisation should meet the following 
criteria:

*	A non-governmental organisation registered and operating in one or 
several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, and which has a history of 
work with women in the region;
*	Known for the excellence of its work and the relevance of its 
initiatives on issues of priority to women in Sub-Saharan Africa;
*	That carries out research, develops policies, or is involved in any 
other initiatives in accordance with the purpose of the Fund;
*	That has developed collaborative and partner relationships with 
Canadian registered charities;
*	That is committed to share knowledge and strengthen links of 
solidarity and collegiality between Africa and Canada.


Nominations should be submitted in writing and include a description of 
the African organisation, as well as a brief statement of the reasons 
why the nominee meets the criteria of the Betty Plewes Funds.

The document should introduce the work (a maximum of 1,500 words) to 
which the award would be applied:

i.	the purpose and the objectives of the work to be carried out and its 
integration with the ongoing work of the organisation;
ii.	the expected benefits for women;
iii.	the constraints the organisation faces that the grant would help 
to tackle


The Selection Process

Nomination letters should be sent to the Secretariat of CCIC to the 
attention of the:

The Selection Committee will receive nominations until March 12, 2004.

The Committee will recommend one or more of the nominees to the CCIC 
Board of Directors that will make the final decision and will 
communicate the name of the successful organisation during the CCIC 
Annual General Meeting, in May 2004.
