PHA-Exchange> ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE ON CONFLICT TRANSFORMATION - PEOPLES' AGENDA

Dear All
All are invited to participate in the Round Table Conference on Conflict Transformation - People's Agenda to be held on August 26, 2003 (Bhadra 9, 2060 BS), Tuesday from 12.00 to 17.00 hours in Birendra International Convention Center, New Baneswor, Kathmandu. More than 500 participants including 100 delegates form all 75 districts of Nepal representing human rights organizations, civil societies, professional organizations, national commissions on human rights, women and deprived people, key leaders of major political parties in Nepal and prominent personalities active on human rights and social justice will participate. People's concern and agenda for conflict transformation will be deliberated upon and discussed. This round table is organized to save the peace process, to pressure the conflicting parties to continue dialogue and to conclude peace process with conflict transformation addressing root causes of conflict, social violence and social inequity and injustice, and by bringing about socio economic and political transformation with which the people of Nepal could be assured of their sovereign rights to assert their rights and to prevent despotism, autocracy and violation of human rights.

Programs: 

  1.. The proceeding will be open forum without chair person or chief guest, however, moderated by Dr. Arjun Karki, President of NGO Federation, Nepal (NFN), who will also set the rules of proceeding and process
  2.. Mr. Shanta Lall Mulmi, General Secretary of NFN will welcome highlight the purpose.
  3.. 25 key personalities representing various sectors will table their concern and view points briefly and specifically. Each will have only 5 minutes to speak. All are advised to organize their presentation accordingly. They would not need to address the moderator or the house. They are advised to enter the subject directly.
  4.. Based upon the presented view points and concerns Professor Mathura P. Shrestha from the Civil Societies for Peace Development will propose a "Timetable for Peace Process and Conflict Transformation".
  5.. The conference will be opened for discussions and comments. Because of time constraint and the need to manage a huge gathering question answer session will not be entertained. Each volunteering to speak may raise his/her hand and will speak only after the moderator will signal and hand mike will be delivered. The person is strongly advised to be specific and brief to limit the presentation within 2 minutes.
  6.. Based upon the participants concern Mr. Gauri Pradhan, President of CWIN will present the conference declaration as conclusion
