 Dear Friends,
Greetings from People's Health Movement Secretariat (Global) at CHC, Bangalore!

Many of us from PHM are attending meetings around the next World Health Assembly from 15th to 22nd May 2003 (see separate communication posted on the exchange). Would anyone be interested and able to join and from a small PHM contingent that can participate in the Day of Resistance using 'theatrical' and 'festive' civil disobedience action. See note below. Any volunteers? Inform the secretariat.

 Best wishes,

 Ravi Narayan

FYI:

- G8

Mobilization in Lausanne (Switzerland) against the G8
The next annual meeting of the G8 (group of the world's most industrialized countries) is to take place on June 1 to 3 at Evian, France, and once again social movements are organizing a series of calls to action and parallel discussions for the same dates.
An international coordinating body comprising activist organizations of diverse persuasions met first in Geneva in March, and again last weekend to prepare social resistance.
It was decided that protest action would be organised jointly between Switzerland and France. Protests would be peaceful; that is, there would be no demonstrations on military property, no attempt to seek confrontation with "security" forces or to penetrate security zones (red zones). On the contrary, the demonstrations against the G8 should choose political, social and cultural terrain. "Theatrical" and festive civil disobedience action is planned.
In Lausanne, where several participants of the official meeting are staying, there will be a Day of Resistance on June 1. The Action and Demonstrations group of the Anti-G8 Committee has already started to prepare these activities, including a major demonstration close to the red zones in Lausanne to "explain" to the G8 participants that they are not welcome.
The organizers of these protests are seeking to join and coordinate forces with other groups in order to set up a broad, articulated front in opposition to the G8. Anyone interested in taking part can contact the "Action and Demonstrations" working group of the Vaudois Anti-G8 Committee by e-mail to regis.wieland at swissonline.ch
