Dear All
about 500 human rights activists, intellectuals and members of civil societies advocating human rights, social justice and democracy assembled between 4.30 to 530 PM today in Ratna Park of Kathmandu to demonstrate against the recent king's takeover under 'Civil Societies for Democracy', a coalition formed under the initiative of 'Movement for the Protection of Democratic Rights' with black flag symbolizing dark nights (dark period kala ratri), banners and placards depicting following slogans:
1.. All party to 1990 People's Movement Unite.
2.. The source of state-power is the people not the king; The sovereign rights are invested with the people not with the king.
  3.. Repeal King's proclamation of October 4.
4.. Protect the gains of 1990 Movement; Oppose the regressive plot.
5.. We Shall not allow the demise of democracy; We shall not allow the people's rights hijacked.
6.. The October 4 royal declaration is unconstitutional and regressive.
The demonstration was silent protest and peaceful. It was very effective applauded by passing people waving their hands high. However, the police snatched banners and placards depicting "The source of state-power is the people not the king; The sovereign rights are invested with the people not with the king". Black flags, and other banners and placards were allowed.

There was a corner meetings in Kathmandu organized by Jana Morcha Party against the takeover at 5.30 PM today.

Sincerely,

Mathura P. Shrestha.
