PHA-Exchange> PAHO elections

This is just to inform you all about the victory of Mirta Roses
(Argentina)in yesterday's PAHO/WHO elections (20 votes vs 16 of Dr. 
Sepulveda -Mexico- with 2 blank/null votes).

This victory, for many of us represents a political victory because in
a way it represents a stream of the progressive latinamerican position 
for equity, solidarity and human rights in health against the position 
of the "Washington consensus" and its subsequent versions.It needs to 
be said that the USA (Secreatry of DHHS)the night before the election 
publicly ensured/threatened all that "they" had already won the 
elections!!

This gives us hope that a similar victory can be had in the WHO 
elections.
