I thought the quote below a very clever way of making the point. One 
might add that the homeless guy is then required to spend 15 or 20 
cents of that quarter on goods and labor coming from the US...

"American aid to sub-Saharan Africa amounts to less than one
one-hundredth of one per cent of national income—the equivalent of
somebody who makes a hundred and thirty thousand dollars a year
flipping a quarter to a homeless person once a week."
